Dear UCI Community Members,
I'm writing to share some staffing updates in Student Life & Leadership.
Sustainability Resource Center DirectorGarrett Hurley started as the Director of the Sustainability Resource Center on July 1, 2022. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication and Psychology from Oregon State University and most recently his MS in Student Affairs & Higher Education from Indiana State University. During his time at Indiana State, Garrett served as the Sustainability Coordinator at the Office of Sustainability and completed his graduate assistantship in the same office. Cross-Cultural Center Director
Dr. Cesar Ramos started as the Cross-Cultural Center Director on July 11, 2022. Cesar joins us with 13 years of professional experience in higher education. He graduated from St. Mary’s College of California with a Bachelor of Arts in Politics followed by earning his Master’s Degree in Public Administration with a focus on Human Resources and Organizational Change. Most recently, Cesar completed his Doctorate in Education at Cal State University East Bay in Educational Leadership for Social Justice. His dissertation focused on the sense of belonging to Black and Brown students in higher education. Cesar brings with him a commitment to enhancing student experiences through holistic student development, student organization/group experience and professional staff supervision and advocacy experiences.
Associate Dean of StudentsDr. Ellen Whitehead joined the Student Life & Leadership family as the Associate Dean of Students on October 1, 2022. Ellen comes to UC Irvine after having served over 15 years at UC Riverside (UCR). She has held Interim roles as Associate Vice Chancellor/Dean of Students and Associate Dean of Students for Campus Life in addition to her role as Director of Student Life at UC Riverside where she oversaw robust growth in campus life and engagement. Prior to her role as Director, Ellen worked as the Coordinator of First Year and Orientation Programs and the Coordinator of Student Organizations at UC Riverside. Prior to UCR, Ellen was the Coordinator of Student Development in Housing and Residential Life at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and was a Resident Coordinator at California State University San Bernardino. Ellen graduated with her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from California State University San Bernardino, her Master of Education Degree from Azusa Pacific University and received her Bachelor's degree in Health Administration and Planning from California State University San Bernardino.
